Frequently asked questions

Getting started

What is SOXO?+
A campus app built around your verified school community — chat with people in your rooms, see who’s free right now, buy and sell with other students, and find out about events happening on campus.
Why do I need a school email to sign up?+
Your school email is how we confirm you’re actually part of that campus community before showing you things meant for it — rooms, events, and listings are all scoped to your school by default.
I don't want to lose access if I switch or stop checking my school email — what then?+
Add a backup email or phone number from your profile— optional, but it’s there so you’re not locked out if your school email ever stops working.

Safety

Is this safe for someone under 18?+
Accounts identified as minors are automatically kept separate from adult accounts in direct messages and in the “who’s free right now” feature — this isn’t something you have to turn on, it’s enforced on our end based on the date of birth you provide at signup, which is never shown to other users.
Someone's bothering me — what can I do?+
Report the message, listing, or person directly where you see it — reports go to a real review process, not just an algorithm. You can block anyone in direct messages at any time, and it takes effect immediately.
Can people from other schools see my messages or listings?+
No — rooms, events, and marketplace listings are only visible within your own school by default. The one exception is if an organizer deliberately shares an event with a link, which works even for people outside your school.

Marketplace & events

How do I pay for something in the marketplace?+
In-app payment isn’t turned on yet for this launch — message the seller directly through the app to arrange payment between yourselves. We’re starting this way on purpose, to find out whether people actually want to buy and sell this way before adding a payment system on top of it.
Can I sell event tickets through the app?+
Not yet — events are free and RSVP-based for now. Paid ticketing is built and ready, just not switched on for this launch while we work out which payment provider makes sense here.

Pings

What's a "ping"?+
A one-time check for who’s free right now — either in a specific room, or nearby if you use the location-based version. Nobody sees that you checked unless they confirm they’re actually free; it’s not a standing notification or a tracker.
Does the app track my location?+
Only if you turn on “let nearby people find you,” and only while the app is open and visible on your screen — it stops the moment you switch apps or lock your phone. Nothing is kept as a history; each check just overwrites the last.

Your account & data

Can I get a copy of everything I've posted?+
Yes — “Export my data” on your profiledownloads everything you’ve posted or own as a file.
How do I delete my account?+
“Request account deletion” on your profile immediately clears your name, photo, and contact details. The full account and anything with its own retention requirements (like order history) are removed by our team afterward rather than instantly — the reasoning is explained at /data.
Where can I read the actual legal details?+
Terms of Service and Privacy Policy have the full detail; /data is the plain-language version of the privacy side specifically.
