Legal
Terms of Service
Last updated [DATE — set before publishing]
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of SOXO (“the Platform,” “we,” “us”), operated by [legal entity name — confirm]. By creating an account, you agree to these Terms. If you don’t agree, don’t use the Platform.
1. Eligibility
The Platform is built around verified school communities — most features require an email address matching a participating school’s domain. [Set and confirm a minimum age to use the Platform at all. The current design supports users as young as 16, and applies additional restrictions to accounts identified as minors: minors cannot message or be matched with adult accounts, and cannot purchase tickets to events with an organizer-set minimum age above their own, once in-app ticketing is active. This age floor has real legal consequences under Nigerian law — confirm the right number with counsel.]
2. Your account
You’re responsible for the accuracy of the information on your account and for activity that happens under it. Don’t share your login. Tell us if you think your account has been compromised.
3. Acceptable use
You agree not to use the Platform to:
- Harass, threaten, or target another person, including via direct messages, room chat, or event listings
- Post or send sexual content involving, or any content that sexualizes, a minor — this is never permitted for any reason and results in immediate account termination and referral to law enforcement where applicable
- Impersonate another person, school, or organization
- Attempt to circumvent age restrictions on ticketed events or the minors-matching restrictions on messaging and pings
- List, sell, or promote anything illegal under Nigerian law, including alcohol or controlled substances where prohibited for the relevant venue, state, or attendee ages
- Use the marketplace, job postings, or event listings for fraud, scams, or deceptive pricing
- Send unsolicited bulk messages, or attempt to scrape, spam, or abuse the messaging or availability-ping systems
- Interfere with the security, integrity, or normal operation of the Platform
We use a mix of automated content review and human moderation. We can remove content, issue warnings, suspend, or permanently ban an account for violating these Terms — see Trust & Safety below for how that process works.
4. Content you post
You keep ownership of what you post — room messages, marketplace listings, event descriptions and photos, and anything else you upload. By posting it, you give us a license to host, display, and distribute it as needed to operate the Platform. Photos you upload are compressed before storage to keep the app usable on limited data plans — this doesn’t change ownership, just file size. You’re responsible for having the rights to anything you post.
5. Marketplace
The marketplace lets you list items, tutoring, food, or services and connect with a buyer or seller through the Platform’s messaging. In-app payment processing is not currently active — arranging and completing payment happens directly between buyer and seller, outside the Platform. We are not a party to that transaction and are not responsible for its outcome. This section will be updated with payment-specific terms (held funds, platform fees, dispute handling) before any in-app checkout goes live — not retroactively applied to transactions arranged before then.
6. Events
Events are created and hosted by individual users (“organizers”), not by the Platform. The Platform is not the host, sponsor, or organizer of any event listed on it, and is not responsible for what happens at an event, including compliance with alcohol service laws, venue capacity or safety requirements, or any other applicable law. Organizers are solely responsible for their event complying with all applicable laws, including age restrictions where relevant.
Paid ticketing is not currently active for this launch — events are free and RSVP-based. When paid ticketing is enabled, this section will be updated with the specific payment, payout, and refund terms before that feature goes live.
7. Trust & safety
We review reported content, which may include automated classification before human review for serious categories. Actions we can take include removing content, issuing a warning, temporarily suspending, or permanently banning an account. If your account is suspended or banned, or content of yours is removed, you can file an appeal through the Platform for human review.
8. Your data
How we collect, use, and protect your information, and your rights over it under Nigeria’s Data Protection Act 2023, are covered in our Privacy Policy and, in plain language, at /data.
9. Third-party services
We use third-party services to operate the Platform, including Supabase (hosting and data storage), Anthropic’s Claude API (trip-planning suggestions), and Twilio (phone number verification). Your use of the relevant features means your data is processed by these providers under their own terms — see our Privacy Policy for detail on where and why.
10. Disclaimers
The Platform is provided “as is.” We don’t guarantee it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any match, listing, or event outcome will meet your expectations. We’re not responsible for the conduct of other users, on or off the Platform, including at any event organized through it or any transaction arranged through its marketplace.
11. Limitation of liability
[Standard limitation-of-liability language goes here — capping damages, excluding indirect/consequential damages, etc. Left as a placeholder deliberately: the right scope depends on your risk tolerance and Nigerian contract law specifically, and is exactly the kind of clause worth getting from a lawyer licensed in Nigeria rather than adapted from a Canadian or generic template.]
12. Termination
You can delete your account at any time — see /data for what that actually does. We can suspend or terminate your account for violating these Terms, as described in Trust & Safety above.
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. [Confirm the specific state/venue for dispute resolution, and whether arbitration is preferred over court proceedings, with counsel before publishing.]
14. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as the Platform changes — in particular, when in-app payments or paid ticketing are enabled, since Sections 5 and 6 above are written for the current payment-free launch. We’ll post the updated version here with a new “Last updated” date; continued use after a change means you accept the update.
15. Contact
Questions about these Terms: [contact email].
